Joox Launches New Karaoke Rooms Feature

A New Way to Sing Along with Friends

Tencent’s music streaming app Joox has found success in Asia with its mix of short videos, live video chat groups, and low bit rate options. Now the company is looking to capitalize on the popularity of karaoke in Asia by introducing Karaoke Rooms to the app. These digital ‘rooms’ allow users to sing along with friends in real time. With Karaoke Rooms, Joox looks to be taking on Spotify’s popular Lyrics feature head-on.

Since its launch in 2015, Joox has become the biggest music streaming app across Asia. It is most popular in Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia, capturing more than 50% of the audio streaming market in some countries. Featuring short videos similar to TikTok, live video chat groups, and bit rate options at 64kps and 128kps to keep data cost low, the music platform has found solid footing with the Asian audience. With a platform that boasts over 40 million songs, its music collection is smaller than Spotify, but it thrives by providing localized content in its key markets

Joox’s Karaoke Rooms launched in February, allowing users to sing along with friends in public and private rooms. Users can customize their virtual stage with props and beauty filters, while enhancing their voices with audio settings such as reverb, autotune, and other mixing effects. The room host can invite anyone to join in on a duet, or let individuals shine with solos. Up to 50 songs at a time can be requested per session, limiting singers to only three song requests each.

“Music fans have always enjoyed sharing their beloved tunes and hits from their favorite artists among their friends and family. As part of JOOX’s commitment to cater to the needs and demands of music enthusiasts all over Asia, we are excited to roll out the new Karaoke ROOMS feature, which will not only allow JOOX users to chat, hang out and bond with the people closest to their hearts, but also highlight their musical talent and be a star on their special virtual stage.” – Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Joox.

Find JOOX mobile or desktop app on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store or access the JOOX website. JOOX is now available on iOS, Android and Desktop (Windows/Mac).
